Ned Collette & Wirewalker
Editorial Review
Ned Collette has been stomping around the local music industry since the late '90s. With a degree in modern composition, a guitar and a swag of original tunes, he's worked alongside several bands, released two solo albums, toured relentlessly and generally gotten on with being a world-class musician. Signed to Dot Dash Records in 2005, he released his debut the following year, Jokes and Trials, with a second album of folk and pop, Future Sound, to follow in 2007. Influenced by acts like Leonard Cohen, Robert Wyatt and Cat Power, Collette's own records have been met with critical acclaim and a strong underground following. Meanwhile, the accompanying world tours have been exercises in minimalism - a guitar, a delay box and his voice.
While the first two albums helped Collette become an indie favourite, his latest release, Over The Stones, Under The Stars, looks set to expand that fanbase. With a new band, Wirewalker, in tow, he's got an expanded live set-up and a string of dates up and down the country. The mix of folk, rock and indie music is present and accounted for, but this is now Collette in (metaphorical) widescreen HD.
