Editorial Review

Decent press shots can make or break an act. Melbourne's Whitley understands this. Indeed, he has some of the best photos in the business; a mix of kitsch props (owls on shoulders, deer anteliers) and elaborate lighting. Give you an idea of the artist? Of course, it helps if you have the music to back up the expensive photo shots. Whitley has both angles covered.

The singer/songwriter released his debut album, Submarines, in 2007. A mix of alt-country and folk music tinged with electronic undercurrents, it was labelled tumbleweed soul by people who invent music genres for a living. Whatever you want to call it, the album won him fans and accolades and he's been touring it for the last 12 months and change, sharing his whimsical tales of love and loss.

Having just wrapped up a tour of the US, Whitley is now back in the country. This is his last tour before he heads back into the studio to record the follow up to Submarines. He's one of the most interesting artists currently doing the rounds, so now would be as good a time as any to discover his music, and his wonderfully quirky press shots.
