Madonna kicks off her new world tour to widespread indifference.

Turning 50 hasn't slowed down Madonna one bit. Or stopped her from wearing inappropriate attire. Those two worlds collided when Madge kicked of her new world tour at the UK's Millennium Stadium last week.

The show kicked off with the singer sitting atop a throne - wearing a sparkly black, one-piece outfit - and moved through four distinct parts: Pimp, Old School, Gypsy and Rave. The track selection spanned her entire career and included everything from Vogue and La Isla Bonita, through to new material from the Hard Candy album. Interestingly, Kanye West, Britney Spears and Pharrell Williams all popped up during the show - via pre-recorded messages. None bothered to show up in person. Also, it has to be noted that the 40,000 strong crowd was well below the stadium's capacity.

Madonna's last world tour was back in 2006 and went on to become the highest grossing tour by a female artist in history. All up the ticket sales hit $195 (US) million. Given the lukewarm reception to the new album (and tour), it seems unlikely this one is going to hit similar figures.
