Editorial Review

There's a common theme to many hotels in Hobart. It won't take long for you to realise that it's nautical, and with good reason. And if you're yet to drop anchor in the Shipwright Arms, then you haven't embraced what it is to be Tasmanian. Located on quiet Trumpter Street, close to the water's edge in Battery Point, the Shipwright Arms hotel has satisfied many sailors and mermaids over its time. Known for hearty meals and a nice selection of beer, Shippies (as it's affectionately known to the locals) is a favourite with locals and yachting crews the world over.

All the reliable beers are on tap - Coopers Pale Ale, Guinness, Carlton Draught and Black, a few Cascades and more - but you can get a whole lot more by the bottle. A nice lager or ale is just what you need to wash down a plate of bangers and mash, or a steaming hot parma. Marvel at the memorabilia on the walls as you park next to the fire, or take your meal in the beer garden out back.

Shippies is also a popular watering hole come time for the annual Sydney to Hobart yacht race. Drop in for a beer and you may nab yourself a sailor.
