The Quarry Salamanca

Editorial Review

With enough imported beer to sink a Spanish galleon and a tapas menu of divine proportions, The Quarry Salamanca is a bluestone haven for the libertines and lushes of Hobart.

Editorial Review

With a name like The Quarry, one could expect a dingy, sweaty bar filled with society's flotsam and miscreants, shaking off the working day with shots of tequila and beer chasers. Luckily, The Quarry Salamanca is far from this reality. Shaped like a swank bluestone cavern and juxtaposed with clean lines and soft lighting, The Quarry captures that "Hey, I'm the new kid on the block!" feel divinely.

A tasty tapas-style menu waits to please the palate - try the fried pinkeyes with rosemary salt - and line the stomach. From there, you can move onto the predominantly Australian wine list. The by-the-glass list is a modest offering, but prepare for a treat when moving onto the bottle selection. Well chosen Australian wines rub shoulder s with European and New Zealand favourites - the Matua Valley Hawkes Bay Sauv Blanc is a sure bet - and the odd bottle of Dom (if you're in the mood to celebrate that six-figure pay rise).

The Quarry also boast many imported beers on tap, bringing that backpacking experience closer to home, and not to mention, in a decently-priced package. Hoegaarden, Asahi, Kronenberg and many more await your whims as expert bartenders pour frosty ones into the wee hours. Not a bad place to get lost, if you even need a reason.
